After graduating with a Masters in Geology from the University of Liverpool, Julia Hill joined Roger Bullivant in 2015 as a Geotechnical Engineer. Over the last six years, she has been involved in some challenging projects across all sectors. More recently, she was involved in the new campus solutions for Manchester City College where the North West division installed CFA bearing piles and a Contiguous Piled Wall.
As part of the company’s Employee Assistance Programme, Julia was enrolled to complete a Masters in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Birmingham part-time to continue her development within the company, between 2017 and 2020, and graduated with a distinction.
Julia works as a Geotechnical Engineer within RB’s Central Support Team carrying out geotechnical designs, covering all current and past UK standards for piled solutions and retaining walls. During her six years with the company, she is actively involved in the research and development team, mentoring graduates, and assisting engineers to improve their understanding of new developments and standards.
Julia has recently been appointed as the new Chair of the Federation of Piling Specialists’ Early Careers Group; her tenure will run for two years.
The ECG was initially set-up to help and support emerging talent within the piling and geotechnical sectors as they work their way up their respective career ladders, and to involve the next generation in shaping the future for the industry.
Speaking of her new appointment Julia said: “The role involves facilitating, encouraging, and nurturing young individuals in the early stages of their working life and education to encourage best practice, continuous development, and knowledge sharing with the ultimate aim of improving standards throughout our much-loved piling sector of the construction industry.
I would like to advance the ECG by placing more emphasis on the development of STEM skills in school-age pupils.”
